Announced today… QUILTCON 2015!

ImageOne year from this weekend, the Modern Quilt Guild will descend upon Austin Texas for QUILTCON, a celebration of modern quilting. There will be a show, classes, demos and lectures including the quilters of Gee’s Bend. Check out quiltcon.com for details about the event, held February 19-22 2015.

Here’s the crazy part… hotels for Quiltcon 2013 sold out, and blocks are already sold out at the Radisson and Hilton. There are rooms at the Hampton Inn and the Marriott as of this posting. But if you’re even thinking of going, reserve a room so that you don’t miss out! Many hotels will allow for cancellations up to 24 hours in advance. But check with the individual hotel. Here is the lodging link for QUILTCON 2015.

We’ll keep posting updates as more events are revealed. As MQG members we are entitled to advance registration and discounts on certain offers.

Hope to see you there!

March Madness

Are you ready to RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEE?

We sure hope you are!  On March 29, 2014 we will be hosting our very first March Madness – quilting style.  This will be an all day sewing event where we break into teams and have a healthy dose of competition to crank out some quilts for charity.  There will be a point system for finished quilt tops, finished quilts, size, etc. to encourage productivity.  Additionally, there will be a level of pre-planning required – shall we call it training? –  to ensure that each team is ready to hit the ground running during March Madness.  While many of the details will be forth coming, our first order of business is to find Team Captains.  As Team Captain you will be in charge of the pre-game strategy to ensure victory for your team.

We will choose the Team Captains tomorrow night at our meeting and also begin a sign-up sheet for interested participants.  We’re hoping to fill our team rosters!  We can’t wait to share more details with you at the meeting!

Let the games begin!

Seeking Acting VP

Our VP Peggy is taking a leave of absence from her role on the NJMQG executive board. According to our bylaws, the executive board may appoint an Acting VP to carry out the responsibilities necessary.

The board is seeking self-nomination of members interested in serving the guild as Acting VP. The main responsibility is creating and maintaining the guild’s calendar and lists of events and enforcing deadlines we may come upon (challenges, filing paperwork, etc.). The Acting VP will need to attend executive board meetings, usually held the week before a guild meeting, and may fill in for the President as necessary. He or she should be familiar with or open to learning online organizational and networking tools (Google docs, Facebook, WordPress).

Above all, we’re looking for someone who will help us pass along the guild spirit of inclusion, positivity, creativity and community.

If you might be interested (this sounds far more serious than it is– we have lots of fun!) please email your nomination to njmqginfo@gmail.com.

EDITED TO ADD: Thank you to the people who have stepped forward– the guild is considering our needs and the strengths of those who have volunteered, and we’ll update the guild as soon as we can.
