Laura @lfullum on day two of insta-intros. I realize it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything on IG. The first photo is a quilt top I’m currently finishing up ... a pattern using the “quick curve” ruler. Next the “Shift Cowl”... a knit pattern by Andrea Mowry. Lastly, a quilt top inspired by our guild’s class with Amy Friend. It’s completed and waiting to be quilted on my sister’s long arm which is in Arizona. Time to plan another vacation!🤗

Hello everyone... my name is Laura @lfullum. I’ve had a love with sewing since I was a young girl. I was born in California yet grew up in Arizona where ALL young ladies were required to take Home Economics from 5th grade through high school. Wow, times have changed. Luckily, I loved these classes and creating items I could wear. After graduating college I moved and traveled for a number of years, always interested in textiles, folk art and the like. While living in the country of Jordan I was able to hone my sewing skills because that was the only way I could have AFFORDABLE western style garments to wear. Today, besides sewing, I enjoy biking, knitting, hiking and kayaking and visiting with friends.

From Lenny @modernstitchwitch Day 7 - To close my week of #instaintros I have the pleasure of reporting on a full day workshop at #njmqg with Sarah Bond @slbphilly: “Playing with Color and Grayscale”. We had a full house with 20 participants, and Sarah quite literally encouraged us to play; so we did. For some b/w fans it was an adventure to dive into color, and for color aficionados like myself it was great to play with b/w/g scales. I specifically enjoyed paper piecing the saw tooth, and seeing how the perspective changes if you put a thin contrasting line into the composition. Playing with the Layout app gave us all some interesting combinations. Swipe to see some more pictures of everyone in action. Thank you Sarah for a great workshop, and our tireless Program Coordinators @cristajoan and @jacquelinelaba for bringing this to us! It’s been a real pleasure hosting the IG account this week. Quilty fun at our Sarah Bond @slbphilly workshop

From Lenny @modernstitchwitch Day 6 - A busy weekend ahead with two workshops I’m excited to attend. Gathering fabric selection today for “Playing with Color and Greyscale” with @slbphilly Sarah Bond #njmqg on Saturday. Same fabric in color and b/w view (Picture 1) using the Layout app Sarah recommended we download prior. I’ll post about the class tomorrow. And on Sunday “Machine Quilting and Strategy” with @carolynfriedlander @gothamquilts . The latter includes a class review of a finished quilt top for quilting strategy, as well as honing FMQ skills. For the review I’ll take my recently completed Improv Triangle top (Picture 2), and a practice sandwich for the FMQ (Picture 3). Asked to bring a 9-patch from 10x10” squares, I was confronted with the recurring dilemma for practice sandwiches (am I the only one?): use good fabric you actually like, or the ugliest you can find in your stash to avoid wasting any? Considering my (lack of) proficiency in FMQ I decided on a compromise in neutral tones, definitely not favorite fabric but I don’t think I could stare at ugly fabric all day either. I‘m excited to learn a lot this weekend! #instaintros
