Meeting this Thursday and a Michael Miller fabric challenge!

Hi Guilders,

Get ready, get set… it’s guild meeting week! Our February meeting will be this Thursday, February 20 at 7PM at Rock Paper Scissors.

We have a LOT of things to talk about, some of which I’ll update the blog about as we get closer to meeting time.

But most excitingly…. the MQG is sponsoring a Michael Miller fabric challenge! We will sign up as a guild and distribute fabric accordingly. If you’re interested in participating, please leave a comment on this post (especially if you can’t make it to the meeting). I will also announce it at the meeting and pass a sign up sheet. There will be three national winners who will each receive a goody box from Michael Miller every month for a year.

As for our own guild quilt block challenge, blocks aren’t due until the March meeting, but if you have them, we’d love to see them! Also bring a name tag and a chair with something for show and tell. It feels like forever since our last meeting. I can’t wait to see everyone!

The Land That Never Was Challenge – The Blocks

At last night’s meeting, Fifteen members shared the challenge blocks they made using Cloud9 Fabric’s “Land That Never Was” fabric. It’s amazing how different they were! Michelle and Gina from Cloud9 will pick their favorite and Rock Paper Scissors is donating a $25 store certificate to the lucky winner! When the contest is decided, we’ll use the blocks to make a donation quilt. Good luck!

Challenge: The Land That Never Was

At Thursday’s monthly meeting, we announced our latest challenge! Cloud9 Fabrics has partnered with the NJMQG to show off the skills of our members as well as some new designer fabric.

The Land That Never Was is the latest line of organic quilting cotton from Lisa Congdon for Cloud9 Fabrics. Participants in the challenge got to blindly pick three fat eighths from the collection to make into a block. They can use just the prints and Kona White to make a block that is 12.5 inches on two sides, whether length or width. They can make the other dimension as big or small as they like.

Blocks are due at the September meeting on Thursday the 26th. Winners will be chosen by Michelle and Gina of Cloud9, and we will be announcing a prize from Rock Paper Scissors! All of the blocks will be collected and made into a quilt to be donated to a worthy cause.

I can’t wait to see what our challenge participants do with the bold colors and imaginative characters! There’s also some great text prints. Stay tuned.

P.S. We have a little bit of fabric left! Contact me at melintheattic(at)gmail.com if you’re a NJMQG member and would like to participate!
