June 2019 Guild Meeting Recap

Hello, my lovely guild mates! Hope everyone is staying cool. Here’s the recap of our June meeting.

We had 36 members and 1 guest joining us. Thanks for coming to visit Liz Kuny (whose amazing piece Troublemaker is the exhibit at the MAM).

First things first! Please take note of changes in the meeting location for the months of July and August!!

July 18 Wayne Public Library 461 Valley Road, Wayne NJ
August 15 LDS Church 209 Mountain Ave Caldwell NJ
Goings on
The Sarah Bond class was a great success!
Quilting Treasures will be at Sew Jersey July 14 9:30-11:30
Betsy and Melanie are in the latest issue of Simply Modern
Schweinfurth will have an exhibit Quilt=Art=Quilt Registration: June 18, 2019 to August 2, 2019 Exhibit Dates: October 26, 2019-January 5, 2020
We also talked about the Japanese quilt festival, Quiltcon and Quiltfest
Chawne Kimber has an exhibit at Lafayette college

Philadelphia Museum has an exhibit that seems interesting Souls Grow Deep

As always we encourage everyone to take advantage of all the MQG has to offer- webinars, etc… and did you sign up for Quiltcon classes?

We also have a nice easy design we can all easily join in on for the MQG charity quilt. It will be half black/half white string block. With text fabric. And keeping a blank white strip to write in and a black strip in the middle. Makes sense, right?! Don’t worry…We will talk more about it soon!

We didn’t have any updates on charity or treasury.

Programs

Our mystery quilt had its 3rd installment go out.

We will be participating in a postcard swap with the Cambridge, Mass MQG. The theme is your favorite place and it will be due in September. More info will be sent out.

We are having a guest lecturer at the July meeting, Linda Seward. We will NOT be doing Show and Tell so if you have something you want to show us and will be gifting it or not have it for August, you can send a picture for the slide show to programs@njmqg.com before the August meeting.

On July 13, we will be having an extra fun Open Sew (at the LDS Church, in Caldwell) Rachel (and Sarah?) will be doing some fun improv exercises based on a Sherri Lynn Wood class they took. Using some charity fabric, you can learn and experiment and loosen up a little. Of course, you are always free to bring your own fabric/project to work on, as well.

August 10, we have an awesome opportunity to do block printing with Rachel at her workplace studio in Jersey City.

And Diane announced the dates for her retreat. If you are interested keep November 6-10 open and you can contact her with any questions (contact info found in members only section of the site)

Oh, one more thing. It has been an honor to be the voice to bring you these blog post recaps. I know I wasn’t always timely with them and I wasn’t great with the Instagram updates, but it’s been fun being the secretary for the past two years. I’m not going to lie, though, it will be nice to not have to take notes.

Good luck to the next board!

Hope See you at the July meeting!
