A few announcements

Make sure that you check your email for some important information about guild elections. Here is some other information worth mentioning before our meeting next Thursday.

  • The Michael Miller challenge has been extended to July 23. Extra time to make something amazing!
  • We are going to start having open sew meetings every few months and are planning the next one for a Saturday in July!
  • We are starting a monthly swap! More details at the meeting in May.
  • Teachers and lecturers have been announced for QuiltCon. Check out the post on the MQG blog

Also, if you haven’t already, check out our members-only Facebook group for notifications about blog activities and sign up to get email alerts from this blog.

The Michael Miller Challenge fabric is here!

Isn’t it pretty?

But we have a dilemma. Each person who signed up for the challenge gets a fat eighth of each print, but how should we cut? It depends on what you want to make. Just FYI, the flower on the biggest print is 8″ tall and 6″wide.

All of the challenge rules and details are here.

We’ll take a vote for 24 hours and cut accordingly. Vote here on the blog now! We’ll be cutting later this week.

Guild quilt block challenge entries

Here they are, the blocks from our NJMQG guild quilt challenge!

We gave each member three fat eighths of colors from our guild logo– Kona Chartreuse, Caribbean, Bright Pink and Orange (not a subtle pallette!). They used those colors plus Kona White to make a block that reflects what modern quilting means to them. We collected an impressive 41 blocks.

We wanted to show our gratitude to our talented members, so we asked three judges from the world of quilting– creative guru (and local Jersey guy) Mark Lipinski, fabric designer Alison Glass and modern quilter/author Elizabeth Hartman– to pick their favorite blocks. The three winners will each get a $25 gift certificate to Rock Paper Scissors and we’re hoping to have some additional goodies to share as well.

Check them out! Click to enlarge and view as a slideshow. We’ve assigned numbers for judging purposes. We’ll be sure to give credit when judging is done.
