January 2024 Guild meeting Recap

Time just doesn’t slow down, does it? Here we are in March and I’m once again, just getting to the meeting recaps…here’s January.

If you can remember all the way back then with me, we had 51 people join us, for our meeting over Zoom. We welcomed new members Arlene and Paula. We had a little bit of business to take care of before we had a special guest lecturer.

We asked everyone to please complete their membership renewal. Don’t forget to fill out the Google form and submit payment! Our new roster starts in February. We had a brief chat about Quiltcon. Who was going, meeting up for a group shot in front of our community quilt, and our Quiltcon sew-in for the folks at home. The February meeting is February 15, over Zoom, but our March meeting will be in person in our new space- First Lutheran Church, 153 Park St, Montclair. A heads up, there was a conflict for the April meeting date so that will now be on April 27th (happens to be my birthday).

We welcomed Libs Elliott to our meeting and she gave us a wonderful lecture, chock full of her history and process using Java based code to make randomized designs which then turn occasionally into quilts and patters. “Bridging the divide of tech and traditional craft”. She talked a bit about her Bloem class that we had with her on the 20th. Looking forward to sharing more from that at our in person meeting. Hope to see there!

Last chance

On Saturday, January 20th, NJMQG is offering Libs’ Bloem Quilt Workshop. In this class, we will practice curved blocks and half-square triangles. Libs will guide participants on how to successfully piece curves and how to sew blocks together to ensure matching seams with tips and tricks along the way. We’ll also cover the various ways these quilts can be quilted for maximum effect. There are still a few slots open for this workshop. Sign up now so you don’t miss this wonderful creative opportunity. This registration will close on Friday morning and participants will need to cut out the shapes prior to the workshop.”
