Hello, all! This week I’m stumped by a quilt. I have a few ideas for how to quilt it, but I can’t seem to commit to any of them. How do you plan your quilting designs. I know some people draw on an image, others just wing it, and I’ve done a bit of both.
Do you have any tips for how you decide on your quilting design?

Great question. I consider the questions that Mel asked but often take a picture and print it and then draw on it with fine point pens to simulate what I might do. And sometimes I get lazy and just do loops or stippling because it is fast. 🙂
I also take photos — it helps me to see “the big picture” too when it’s a large item and I want to get a full view.
I try to decide, do I want to compliment or contrast? How do I want the texture to look and feel? What will it look like with the fabric I’ve chosen? This is a great question to think about because it really make us look at our process.
