May Meeting: Recap

This meeting may go down as our fastest meeting yet!  Even though it seemed to fly by, there are so many exciting events coming up!

Michael Miller Fabric Challenge

Some of you have already shared your Michael Miller challenge projects, and there are many more in the works.  We can wait to see them all this summer – they’re looking wonderful so far.  Don’t forget that the deadline has been extended to July 25th (yes!) and that your project can be anything as long as it’s quilted!  Of course, it has to be made with only Michael Miller fabrics – yes, even the solids!  You can find more information here!

Elections

Be sure to be present at our June meeting so that you can vote in the election for new guild officers.  You must be present at the meeting to vote, and you must be a current member.

Mug Rug Swap

Do you have any radiant orchid fabric laying around?  Make a mug rug!  Anyone who brings a mug rug made in radiant orchid fabric will walk away with a new mug rug made with love from another member!  Be sure to check out more information here!

Upcoming Meeting

The July Meeting will be help on July 12th from noon to 3 at the West Caldwell Church LDS so that we can finish up our charity quilts from March madness, enjoy each others company, and perhaps eat some more Monkey Bread!

Meeting Recap: April

As always, it was so inspiring to be together for our April meeting, even more so as we got the celebrate the judging of our guild quilt blocks together.  This meeting was one for the books as we were all pleasantly surprised with not only judging, but a comedy routine from Mark Lipinski.  Who knew we were going to learn the etiquette of taking selfies and the importance of “labeling your damn quilts”?!  Perhaps this fun was an example of why Melanie was able to share such kind words of reflection after Sewdown about being a member of our guild!  We do have something going on, and Mark sure brought it.

Guild Challenge Blocks

Speaking of bringing it, it was exciting to see our blocks brought out in all their glory again.

The winners of the challenge are as follows, by judge:

Mark Lipinski: Winner Annette, Runner-up Josie

Allison Glass: Winner Kimberli, Runner-up Judy V

Elizabeth Hartman: Winner Melanie, Runner-up Caroline

Thank you, Mark, for coming to share our winners.  Thank you to our judges and members for your hard work!

SewDown Nashville Recap
Seeing and hearing about SewDown Nashville was such a treat.  All of the projects were beautiful and it was clear that the MQG hosted an amazing event.  Plus it was great to see what was created… unless you were like me and stalking Instagram on the weekend of SewDown.  Then you were probably thinking of ways to creatively walk away with some of their projects… (Melanie has a full recap of the weekend on her blog.)

March Madness Roundup

After such an amazing time at March Madness it was exciting to see the spoils of our labor again.  Was anyone else shocked to be reminded again with how much we made?!  Thank you to everyone who volunteered to finish off a quilt.  You can continue to bring these in to the next few meetings.  We’re also looking forward to planning another quilting charity drive.  Especially now that we know the competition level.  If anyone is interested in finishing another quilt, please let us know.  There are plenty of kits of pre-started quilts waiting for some TLC.

Here are some of the quilts and tops that are on their way to being donated:

Michael Miller ChallengeIf the Madrona Road Challenge was any indication, this guild is getting ready to create some amazing quilty things over the next few months.  We are all so lucky to participate in such an easy challenge – have you check out the fabrics?  They are gorgeous.  I know I left with 100 ideas and too much inspiration from our meeting to create something amazing.  If you want to know more about he challenge, check it out here!

March Meeting Recap

I don’t know which was more exciting: The close arrival of Spring or our March Meeting!  It’s always wonderful to see each of you and I leave inspired to make 20 new projects.  (If they’re only made in my head!)  As we all prepare to thaw out – here is what’s coming our way this Spring!

Quilting Retreat

March 21st – March 23rd many members will enjoy a weekend of quilting!  We hope everyone enjoyed their time together – and we expect fantastic projects for the April Meeting!  Get sewing!

Michael Miller Fabric Challenge

The fabric is in the mail, and at the April meeting you will receive a fat eighth of each of the fabrics if you signed up at the start of the challenge.  The deadline for entries will be in June, and the only requirement is that it’s quilted.  We’re excited to see what our guild contributes to the challenge.  It sure would be nice if someone won a year of free fabric!

Guild Quilt

After seeing Central Jersey’s guild quilt at Quilt Fest, it was even more exciting to see all of the blocks created by our members over the past few months.  It was incredible to see the variety of designs used and I know everyone will be thrilled to see the final project.  Even more exciting, we now have guest judges to award gift cards to members for their blocks.  Be on the lookout for verdicts from Mark Lipinski, Alison Glass and even fabric goodies from Robert Kaufman!

Warwick Valley Quilt Show

The 2014 Qults of the Valley Show is May 17 & 18, 2014. We’d love to see some of the fabulous quilts we’ve made since 2010 featured in the show!  Members and non-members alike are invited to submit their quilts. Registration forms are available under the 2014 Show

Heather Grant Webinar

Check your email for information about a modern quilt webinar from the MQG’s Heather Grant! The cost to the public is $10, but with the coupon code in your email it’s free. March 26th, 9PM.  The webinar will cover the History of Modern Quilting – and it will be archived to be viewed later if you can’t make it Wednesday.

Sew Down Nashville

By the April Meeting 7 of our guild members will have returned from Sew Down Nashville, with plenty of tales and lots of inspiration to share.  We’re excited to have such a great showing at the last Sew Down event and we’re all looking forward to hearing the report of their boot stompin’ good time!

Quilters Take Manhattan

Be sure to check out their website, as events are already selling out for the September celebration!

March Madness

Finally, we hope everyone is currently “training” and “preparing” for our first ever March Madness event on March 29th, 2014!  You can read more about the event here or find answers to FAQ here!  We can wait to spend a day of “friendly” competition with each of you as we work to complete quilts for Shelter Our Sisters and Quilts for Kids!

And, finally, the reason we all come together – inspiration and celebration of our creativity as quilters!

Show and Tell

NOTE: We didn’t include pictures of the guild quilt blocks. They will have their own photo session and blog post next week.
