Hello NJMQG!
We were back at the LDS Church in West Caldwell for our last meeting of the summer. Attendance was strong with 34 members and 1 guest Jamie, Alison BondBaron’s sister visiting from Memphis.
We all wished Danielle a Happy Birthday as she celebrates this month.
We took a moment to share the wonderful letter we received from Dana, Michelle’s husband for the ‘Man Quilt’ we gifted him.
Pam shared with us her experience as she recently attended Quilting by the Lake at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Syracuse, NY.
Open Sew/Charity Fabric Sorting
There were about a dozen of us gathered on Saturday, July 15th for some improv and fabric sorting which yielded the following projects
Samantha showed us her improv log cabin quilt top kit of previously collected blocks.and I showed an improv quilt top made from the strips we made that day. There are more kits of log cabin blocks available to be assembled into tops.
We also saw a collection of finished charity quilts of the New Wave pattern by Elizabeth Hartman.
This project used up the remainder of the donated fabric from Beth from Rock Paper Scissors and created 15+ quilts. The pattern and template will remain in our library as we move on to our current charity pattern Shore Line by Tula Pink.
Communication of Upcoming Events
In order to provide easier communication between meetings, we encourage members to use our Facebook page to share events. During the meetings we will provide collected information in a slide for the power point that will be left up during the break for members to gather details for events that interest them.
We also discussed Fabscrap in Manhattan, where Rebecca visited and their sorting location in Brooklyn, where Sara visited.
Next, I shared a slide show of the quilts I viewed at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England. It is included below, in case anyone wanted to view them more closely.
Programs
To provide a little more direction and encouragement for the September Post Card swap with the Cambridge, Mass MQG, Diane provided a very helpful demo and answered questions.
Also in September we will have Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill of Whole Circle Studio visiting with a lecture on Friday, September 27th and workshop on Saturday September 28th
