December 2018 Guild meeting and Holiday Party

Here we are in 2019 and I’m just getting to catch up the remainder of last year!

We had 47 members visiting us for our final meeting and final party of the year. It was a lot of fun and a great success, in big part to Barbara and Terri. We are so thankful for all the hard work put in to make it such a fabulous time!

First things first, there’s always the order of business to get through. We talked about the craft show members so generously donated to, to help do a little fundraising.

We had our vote on increasing dues from $50 to $60- approved
As well as our 2019 budget-approved.

We briefly about the member led half day classes in January.
For more info, check it out here

We collected some Quilts of Valor blocks and will always accept these. 12 1/2 x 12 1/2″ blocks in red, white and blue.

Charity
We sent a huge bunch of our scraps to the Social Justice Sewing academy.
Robert Kaufman is collecting quilts for people who were affected by the wildfires, so we sent some of our completed charity quilts to them
We would also like to ask anyone who is working on a New Wave charity quilt, to bring it to the January meeting

Our Quiltcon charity quilt top and back are done. It still needs a name, so thinking caps on!

We had a blind bag swap. So many great bags and happy faces!

And of course, our favorite part of the meeting is Show and Tell. Holiday gifts and more gorgeousness, as always!!

Mid Atlantic Mod is happening. To make things fair for our members we had a lottery for the spots. A lucky 10 will get early sign up.

The MQG is raising the dues, which is making us look into our finances. We will be voting on the new budget and dues at the November meeting. Renewal starts Dec 1.

Last month we had a challenge for our members. It was the embellishment challenge.

And let’s show off some of what we did in Rayna’s classes.

We asked our members for a show of hand to get an idea for having Sherri Lynn Wood visit our guild. Not sure we should move forward for next year, but we will see what the future brings

We are also asking our members for any ideas for future workshops.

For our holiday swap this year, we are changing it up from the normal Elfster swap to a blind exchange. We voted on a reusable tote bag.

Charity would like to send out what we have at the end of the year. If you have any blocks for Quilts of Valor, bring them to the November meeting!

Raffle time! Congrats, Mary!

The theme is small piecing, using 1″ or less. The idea Amy and Ameri has worked on is amazing. Can’t wait to see this one flesh out.

We started a new thing called Ask the Guild to be able to get feedback on a project. It’s been fun. If you have a project with some questions, bring it in! We love to give our opinions!

Daniela inherited this WIP and is wondering how to work on it while keeping the integrity of the original work, but adding her own style.
