March 2018 Guild Meeting

We had 49 members, 2 guests and 1 new member join us at our meeting this month. Welcome to our new member Debby and visitors Jeannette and Julia!

Happenings

MQG

  • Quiltcon 2018– Let’s discuss. We pretty much agree that there should be more transparency in judging and it is also quite subjective. But don’t forget you do have to be juried, but not judged, to get in.
  • anyone sign up for Nashville yet?
  • still looking for taskforce volunteers, especially Inclusion and Diversity
  • and as always, look for articles, webinars and other good stuff

Charity

  • Please continue to make pillowcases!
  • and see Rachel for Charity sew kits/projects to help complete

Quiltfest

  • Beka accepting sign ups for quilt exhibition due by March18. Monochromatic HST still need to fill out form and send pic. Quilts due at April meeting
  • and still asking for volunteers to set up, take down and coordinate!

Bylaws

  • We will be voting on changes in April. Biggest change is the timing of the dues and officer terms

Programs

  • Chawne Kimber is coming March 16 and 17. Saturday is full. (Will post a recap)
  • Quarter 1 Bee blocks were due. Here’s just some

  • JoAnns classes on the Mariners compass will be April 20 and 21. More info and to sign up
  • Kathy will be teaching the Down and Dirty t-shirt quilt June 16. Look out for sign ups
  • Aleeda will be teaching screen printing in August. Keep and eye out for that too
  • New round of Bee block signs up going out now
  • Don’t forget your Organizer bag swap due at the April meeting

Field Trips

  • We will be going to Brooklyn April 14. There will be carpool options and other meetup options. We’ll see the Brooklyn Quilt show, get a yummy lunch and hit up Brooklyn General. Let’s hope for good weather!
  • And keep your calendar open in June we are hoping to check out Grounds for Sculpture and Pennington quilts. There will be a challenge to go along with this too!

February 2018 Guild Meeting

Hello!

Let’s take a trip down memory lane to our fabulous Valentine’s tea…

So many people and goodies. And what a fun time! What did you think about our impromptu theme?

Welcome to our new members and visitors Jeanette, Berene, Cosmo (the ultimate quilt holder) and Kathy. (Sorry if I’ve misspelled your names)

Field trip

Michelle R updated us all on the field trip scheduled for April 14. We will be heading into Brooklyn for an adventure. We will check out the Brooklyn Museum have lunch and hit up Brooklyn General. We need at least a commitment of 10 people, so we will be taking sign ups and money at the March meeting!

Swap

Our next swap will be due at the April meeting. Let’s make some cool sewing organizers! There’s still some time to sign up!  Get inspired here

Quiltfest

We are asking for volunteers to help coordinate, set up and take down. Set up will start Tuesday April 24, 1-4. We will have a guild exhibition. Individual entry for quiltfest is March 26 (for guild March 21)

Charity

We will be collecting more pillowcases in a April. Whip a few up today!

Rachel is generously offering to make more templates. Any shapes and sizes you know would work well with kits? Let her or us know.

And check out the great quilts made for donation (from the amazing kits put together by the extraordinary Rachel)

We are continuing to review and revise the bylaws.

Sarah is busy filling up our calendar! Keep an eye out for updates and sign ups. Chawne Kimber will be here before we know it! So excited!

We we’re lucky enough to have Berene aka Happy Sew Lucky aka member Janita’s sister be at our meeting. Funny thing is that she was having a little giveaway on IG and our Margy (and I) won!! So she was able to give her the prize and brought along the Badass quilt for us to enjoy.

And here is Cosmo rocking the quilt holding. He’s got some mad skills.

Happy New Year everyone!

We have renewed our membership with the MQG for another fabulous year. Thanks so to all who have renewed and if you haven’t, there is always time! We will be receiving our membership cards next month.
