January Member Led Workshops!

Happy 2020! We have two workshops for our first guild event of the new decade!!! On January 25th, we will have two member led workshops taught by our talented members Betsy Vinegrad and Sue Erdreich.

Paper Piecing with Betsy
Paper piecing is a surprisingly easy technique for creating quilt blocks with precisely Betsy Paper Piecing.JPGmatched seams and perfect points.  We will be using Diane Bohn’s pattern called “My First Alphabet” in class.  A variety of simple and complex letters will be demonstrated during the workshop. Students will learn the basics and be able to tackle any paper pieced project.

**please note: students will receive a discount code to purchase the required alphabet pattern**

Presentation/ Trunk Show: Content, Concepts & Quilts: Approaching Quilting as a Graphic Designer.

Time: September 27th at 7:00 pm

Our own life experiences can play a big role in our work as quilters. In this presentation and trunk show Sheri will share how she applies her graphic design training and practices to design quilts while showing a selection of her award-winning quilts. Come hear, see, and be inspired as Sheri describes her creative journey and process.

Workshop: Double Friendship Knots: Combining Foundation Paper Piecing with needle turn applique
doublefriendshipknots_denyse_01.jpgdoublefriendshipknots_scrappy_01_small.jpg

Learn how to make the Double Friendship Knot block (22” x 22”). This block incorporates foundation paper piecing on a machine and hand needle-turn applique. In the morning, students will trust their intuition and rapidly piece their “scrappy knots” on a sewing machine with paper as a foundation. In the afternoon, we’ll slow it down and kick back with some handwork, learning how to prepare the applique and how to apply the layered motif by alternating basting and needle-turn applique techniques. By the end of the workshop, students will have some of the block basted and will start practicing needle-turn applique. When complete, students can make their block into a mini-quilt, wall hanging or pillow. Previous foundation paper piecing experience is required.

Time: September 28th 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Location: Community Church – Cedar Grove, 65 Bowden Rd. Cedar Grove, NJ 07009
