Reminder: Open Sew & Charity Sew Combo – this Saturday 10/7

Our Open Sew is this Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 4pm at the Community Church of Cedar Grove, 65 Bowden Street, Cedar Grove, NJ (where we meet for our monthly guild meetings).

We have SIX hours of sewing scheduled! Can’t make it for the entire time? Come when you can!

So many inquiries have come in about contributing to the recent hurricane relief, we are combining & using the opportunity of this open sew to also make progress on our charity efforts. *Of course, if you have a project you’re trying to get done, please bring it. It will be nice to sew and spend time together.

For our charity sewing – quick and easy is the key, so we can get as much done as possible. We can work together in groups to knock out some projects: sew with a buddy or make a team!
*We’ll bring our donated fabric, scraps, and a big roll of batting.
Don’t feel like piecing? That’s cool – there are few quilt tops already made just waiting to be to be quilted. We’ve cut out big pieces of coordinated fabric for backs, some new tops, or there are a few precut pillowcases if you’d like to try one of those.
*Do you have any jelly rolls or charm packs you haven’t found any use for? (Then let me see your jelly roll!) Bring them along – maybe they will work with something in the charity stash – and no cutting needed! Large pieces for backings are especially appreciated.

*Besides fabric and batting, we will have a cutting station, including an AccuQuilt (Diane will be there to show us the magic of the AccuQuilt and we’ll cut all the things at one time!); an ironing station, and some extension cords.

Please bring:
*sewing machine and your basic supplies
*small ironing set up (the more the merrier), or ironing board (let us know if you’re able to bring one)
*extension cords/surge protectors
*your smiling face

Food stuffs: bring snacks, bring your own lunch (there is a microwave & fridge available), or bring cash $$$ to buy from the Cedar Grove Deli. We’ll place an order.
***
Please bring any finished pillowcases you have – I heard you all made SO MANY!!!!!
Thanks so much, and looking forward to seeing you all
-Rachel

Exhibit in NYC

https://www.curiouscorners.com/single-post/2017/08/27/Erin-Wilson-at-KOFU-showroom

This exhibit of the work of Erin Wilson using Japanese textiles and her own hand dyed fabric is only up until Oct. 7,  in a gallery in Chelsea.  A couple of us on the Board are planning to go see it next Thursday, and thought this would be a fun field trip for any Guild members who had the time and interest.

The exhibit is open from 1p until 6p.  The gallery is in the neighborhood of Chelsea Market and the High Line, and about 14 blocks from the Whitney Museum.  If the weather is still  nice we could do some walking, grab a bite to eat.  Obviously it is a work day, and there is mass-transit and a lot of walking involved, so it’s not for everyone.

We will plan to meet in front of  547 W 27th St, at 1pm Thursday  October 5.

Respond in the comments, or let Margy know  (president@njmqg.com) if you’re interested,  and we can plan our afternoon.

Reminder:  Just two days left to respond to our survey!  This is your guild, and we value your input and participation.
