Zippered Pouch Swap with the DCMQG

Screen Shot 2016-08-23 at 9.13.15 PM

We’re super excited to partner with the DCMQG on a zippered pouch swap!

Here’s how it works:
1. Register for the swap by September 6th, by completing this survey: Zippered Pouch Swap Registration

2. Make a zippered pouch no smaller than 6″ H x 6.5″ W x 4″ D for your partner. You will receive your partner’s name, email, and social media information by September 12th. This is not a surprise swap, so please get to know your partner!

You can use any zippered pouch pattern – However these dimensions are for the Noodlehead Medium Open Wide Pouch, which is a perfectly acceptable zippered pouch you could make! Check out our Pinterest board for more inspiration!

3. Fill the zippered pouch with $10 worth of goodies and a note and bring it to the October guild meeting on October 20th. Stella will provide tags for you to attach to the pouch so you can write your partner’s name on it.

4. At the November 17th guild meeting, you’ll receive your zippered pouch & goodies from your DCMQG swap partner.

5. Post how happy you are on social media, tagging your new DCMQG pal!

SOLD OUT – Hawaiian Appliqué – Invisible Machine Technique Workshop with Diane Fama

This class is SOLD OUT! If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please contact Stella Singleton via email.

We’re so excited to kick off our Member-Instructor Workshops with Diane Fama’s Hawaiian Appliqué -Invisible Machine Technique workshop!

About Diane
Diane started her quilting career by piecing by machine and quilting by hand, lap quilting-style so it was portable and could be done on the run. She joined her first guild in the 1980s where she learned a variety of techniques, including hand piecing and appliqué, by making blocks of the month to practice her skills and learn different methods. Diane has shown her quilts locally and nationally and has been honored with many ribbons and awards for her various fiber art works over the years.

Workshop Details
Remember folding paper several times as a kid and then cutting it into Snowflakes? This same concept is used for Hawaiian Applique to be appliquéd to a background in one of several techniques. We’ll explore the right way to fold and cut the freezer paper to make a perfect Hawaiian appliqué unit. We’ll discuss and perform invisible machine appliqué methods during class to be used to put your Hawaiian design onto the background fabric. Students should be able to complete one Hawaiian applique block during class. These can be made into a single design wall hanging, pillow, or be used as the first of several blocks for a table runner or wall hanging.

We’ll cover circles, curves, leaves, stems, points, inverted points, reverse peep holes.  Once you mastered these techniques, you will get the opportunity to try your hand at a simple Hawaiian style motif project that can be finished into a 20-inch square or pillow. If time allows, we will also review how to do machine button hole stitching for a completely different look and feel.

Date & Time: November 19, 2016 / 10a – 4p
Location: Cedar Grove Community Church
Cost: $25 NJMQG members / $35 non-members
