Holiday Potluck/December meeting

    • It’s a party! An email from Amy via Sign Up Genius was sent to create a food checklist for everyone to see who and what people are bringing to the party.
  • There will be appetizers and desserts available. We are also asking that everyone list ingredients to make sure of food allergies, restrictions, etc.
  • Note Location: Dec 17th at the LDS church in Caldwell, doors open at 6:30PM and we will start at 7PM.

Special Guest: Cliff Peterson was here!  He contacted the NJMQG after his wife Myra had sadly passed away. Myra started a quilt but never did get a chance to finish it so Amy took the pieces she had done and finished the quilt top. Krishma long armed, bound, and made a bag for the quilt out of the remaining pieces. It was a beautiful tribute to Myra.

Quilt Fest Special Exhibit Submissions!

:: QUILT FEST SPECIAL EXHIBIT SUBMISSIONS MARCH 2016 ::

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 3.45.34 PM

Have you figured out which quilt(s) you are going to submit to be chosen to hang at Quilt Fest in our special exhibit: Modern Quilts: North Jersey Modern Quilt Guild yet??

Quilt Fest Dates: March 3-6, 2016.

Location: Garden State Exhibit Center, 50 Atrium Drive,  Somerset, NJ 08873

:: How to Submit / Details ::
•  We are able to display 20 quilts.

•  A committee has been selected (the current executive board and 2 previous executive board members) to review entries to curate the show. Please keep in mind that this is an exhibit that should showcase your best modern quilt work. This is an exhibit that is included in the show, in part,  to raise awareness about the modern quilt movement.

•  This is an excerpt of the blurb we submitted for the brochure and for the website about our exhibit:
“Modern quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design. Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in different ways, but several characteristics often appear which help identify a modern quilt. These include, but are not limited to: the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work. “Modern traditionalism” or the updating of classic quilt designs is also often represented.”

•  We encourage submitting mini quilts and multiple quilts!

•  To be considered, please click here to fill out the form. The form will ask for the following info:

– Maker’s name

– Title of each work
– Artist statement “blurb” (name of maker, title of item – may include more details – plus a descriptive paragraph)
– Size: quilts must be min of 24″ max of 96″
– Insurance value (from Quilt Fest guidelines: “INSURANCE: Individual quilts may be insured for $100 up to $1000 each. Items valued at greater than $1,000 require a written appraisal. Items cannot be insured for greater than $5,000 each (even with a greater appraised value). MSM insurance coverage excludes earthquake and flood.”)

– Email and phone number

•  After submitting the form please email 1-2 photos of your quilt to njmqginfo at gmail dot com. Please name the file with your last name and name of the quilt. Example: “Surname_Quiltname.jpg”.

•  Please email by Wednesday, December 16th so the committee has enough time to view and vote to curate the items in the show.

::  Other Details ::

– Each quilt should have a 4″ sleeve sewn on the top for easy hanging.
– Each quilt should have a label with a minimum of the following information: Maker’s Name, Name of Quilt

– The exhibit must be shipped as a group in as few boxes as possible or delivered to the Convention Center as a group by a maximum of 4 people. We can arrive any time during the afternoon of Wednesday, March 2. The quilt show will close on Sunday, March 6 at 5pm. We will coordinate drop-off and take-down at a later date.

• Wondering if your quilt(s) is “modern enough”? Submit anyway! There are many areas/categories that modern quilts fall into and we will do our best to showcase a breadth of work that represents modern quilting.

• You will be notified about your quilt(s) by December 30th.
• Please contact us at njmqginfo at gmail dot com with any questions. We are so excited to see your amazing work!
Thank you!
