May 21st Meeting Recap

Time for another recap of our virtual meeting. Another well attended meeting with 47 members logged on.

We are met with heartfelt sadness in learning of the death of Michelle Reiter’s husband. Our deepest condolences to her and her family.

We were informed Sallie Rosal is growing stronger each day! We wish her continual healing.

We wished a virtual ‘Happy Birthday’ to our May babies! The free fat quarter list keeps growing.

We sent out a warm welcome to our newest members Paul Daniels and Marie Cloutier.

Guild Business

Board Elections We thank you all for participating in our email solicitation form. Our current nominee for Programs is Samantha Linehan. She may be joined by one or more nominees to run Programs. The official slate of officers will be presented at the June meeting.

Quiltcon 2021 – To Be virtual. Due to all the changes of social gatherings this event will take on a new appearance for 2021. We will bring you details of classes and quilt submission deadlines as they are clarified and communicated to us.

Here are the guidelines for what was previously known as the Quiltcon Charity Quilt. Now is the time to start to generating ideas. We will be organizing a committee for a guild wide quilt submission. You may also form your own group and submit your own quilt. Find more details at this link Outreach Quilt Challenge

If you happened to miss it, Melanie Tuazon was featured recently on the MQG website for her Character Improv Quilt Piecing Tutorial. Head over to the MQG website and download her PDF from the members resources and try your hand at improv piecing.

Programs

Next up we had our first virtual lecture with Berene Campbell from Happy Sew Lucky. She is a modern quilter, pattern designer and community project instigator who lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Berene provided a very fascinating talk with slide show. We are so excited to start working with her on the following project.

In place of a workshop we will be participating in a collaborative quilting project designed by Berene. Sign ups are open through Friday, May 29th. Details of this program have been emailed to all members.

The entire fee for participation will be donated to Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

In June Carole Lyles Shaw will be joining our meeting to present her lecture. Her workshop later in the month is completely sold out.
