February 2022 Guild Meeting Recap

Hello! We had a ‘small’ meeting, with 31 people joining us, even one checking in from Quiltcon, but still had our normal amount of fun!

Guild Business

We have sent in our numbers to the MQG for our renewal process for the year. We are starting with 66 members, but of course there is always time to renew or join. Click here if you want to do that.

It is Quiltcon time! We have a bunch of members there and I can’t wait to see more pictures and hear stories! Amazingly, the NJMQG had the second most amount of quilts entered in the show. A whopping 14! Way to go, friends! Represent! Congrats to all! Let’s keep on quilting, submitting, and making your quilty friend’s proud!

Our Quiltcon Community Quilt has been put up for sale, and hopefully will sell to benefit the Women of Color Quilters Network and The Navajo Quilt Project. We’ll keep you updated on that.

Programs

Last month we put the word out for Kennel quilts and boy did you deliver! You guys got busy and sent a ton to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. These are only a handful of what you did.

You can still make and send them. You can find some patterns are here.

We finally got to have our Chore coat class at Sew Leana with Daniela. Great work everyone!

2022 is THE year to work on some WIP’s. Programs is challenging us to get some of those old projects done. This month we are giving out a digital version of Cotton and Bourbon’s Mobius Radial quilt pattern.

We had a nice bunch of stuff finished up.

And the winner is….Susan! Congrats! Keep on working on those WIP’s everyone!

Spring is coming and we are looking forward to hosting Audrey Esarey (Cotton and Bourbon) at our March meeting for a lecture. Then April 2, Audrey will be doing a workshop on the Ultraviolet Radial quilt pattern. Keep an eye out for the email to sign up soon.

Show and Tell

Penny let us know that the Warwick Valley Quilt Guild has gotten permission to go ahead with a quilt show this year! I’m sure we will be reminded, and encouraged to enter, but keep October 15 & 16 in your calendar to go visit. It is always a good show!
Susan wanted to know the name of the pattern designer who does the animal quilts…Elizabeth Hartman for the win!

We officially ended at 8:15, but it was nice to stay on and chat for a while too. Hope you are all staying well and quilting often! See you next month, March 17, 7:15, on Zoom!

Winter Wonderland Meet & Greet Tailgate!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!

Due to the rain forecast for tomorrow we are changing our venue for the Meet and Greet
We will now be meeting at
Infinite Scenic
90 Newark Pompton Turnpike
Wayne, NJ 07470
It is in a business complex on the right side of the building near the back.
It has a loading dock with a garage door that will be open. So it’s an indoor space to protect us from rain, but with lots of open air!
Hope to see you there!

Hello friends! I hope you are all having a nice start to the week!

The winter holidays have started for our area, and we are really looking forward to have this chance to see each other. We wanted to remind you all that our get together is on for this Saturday, December 11, from 11-2. We will be meeting in the parking lot of the LDS church, 209 Mountain Ave, Caldwell. There will be warm beverages (although the weather app shows it being mid 60’s, so maybe we should plan for some iced tea, too?) and hanging out together! It’s been so long!

There will be a game played with fat quarters, so if you are interested in joining in, bring one with you. If you’re feeling snuggly, bring a quilt and mug from home, too. And don’t forget to bring a chair!
FYI, we will have use of bathrooms, so don’t feel like you can’t enjoy a big mug of something.

It also looks like there is a chance of rain, so we will keep you updated on all the outlets if anything changes!

Hope to see you then!

November 2021 Guild Meeting

Hello, everyone! Sorry for the delay in the recap, the beginning of holiday season coincides with lots of school days off and goings on and I let it slip. I hope everyone had a relaxing day of thanks…

We had 49 people joining us over zoom and started our meeting with our guest speaker Cindy Grisdela. She gave us a great lecture all about color. One thing that she said that stuck out for me was using the color wheel to help in your quilting (and beyond), but what if… What if you take a tried and true color wheel combo, but then shake it up? My take on it, was there are rules that can be followed, but you should also try playing around with them and changing them up! (I myself love to not follow rules) We would love to get some other takeaways. Leave a comment below!

After a nice Q&A, we got down to some guild business. We had a very comprehensive review of the budget, by our very thorough treasurer, Lenny. We then voted on the 2022 budget and it was approved 100% by members. If you want to read the details on that it can be found in the members only section. (and,as usual, if you need the password, send a board member an email and we can get that to you)

We got a glimpse of our Quiltcon Community quilt top that was pieced by Crista B. and Carolyn M. has offered to quilt it for us. Thanks to all the members that took some time to make a block or help in any other way.

Raffle prize time!…and the winner of the mini iron wand is… Penny M! Congrats!

Let’s talk about next month. Instead of our big December holiday party get together we talked about the activities we have planned. On Saturday December 11th, we are having a “Winter Wonderland Meet and Greet Tailgate” in the parking lot of the LDS church, 209 Mountain Ave, Caldwell. From 11-2 we will be socially distanced ‘chilling’ with our chairs and perhaps a favorite quilt draped over your lap? We will have hot cocoa, tea, coffee, maybe play a game or two, but most importantly, getting out and seeing some quilty friends, or meeting some new friends! Don’t for get to bring a chair, a mug and a quilt or at least an extra scarf!

In lieu of our regular meeting, we will be having a Pajama Party! Friday December 17th, 7:00, join us for a virtual open sew! There may be a little bit of guild business to cover in the beginning, but let’s chat and sew and also open, or share if you couldn’t wait, our Party Poppers!

Programs updated us on sign ups for Holiday Poppers which closed on November 21. The names were sent out for all participating. Don’t forget to get them in the mail by December 1!

Also for anyone who is interested in the Patchwork and Poodles Chore Coat class, there are still spots open, and there is also a new location and dates! Let our very own Daniela D show you how, January 29th and February 5th at Sew Leana, 12 W South Orange Ave,South Orange, NJ from 12:00-4:00. It is $70 (+pattern and you need the to have the quilt/quilted pieces prepared!) Sign up here.

Joann told us that the Bonnie Hunter 2022 mystery quilt has been introduced, if you are interested you can get more info here. And congrats goes out to Joann for the new opportunity at teaching at the Mid Appalachian quilt retreat in Gettysburg college. Can’t wait to hear more about that in the coming months.

I hope to see you all on December 11th and 17th! Any questions or anything you think I’ve missed or we should know about for next month, you can always email a board member! Stay well and warm!

Peace,
-A
