APRIL 2018 GUILD MEETING

OUR APRIL MEETING IS THIS THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2018 AT 7:15 PM AT THE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF CEDAR GROVE, 65 BOWDEN ROAD, CEDAR GROVE, NJ 07009. PARKING IS LOCATED IN THE LARGE LOT IN THE BACK – USE THE SIDE ENTRANCE TO COME IN.

Doors will open  at 7pm.   

• Important: Please sign in at the registration table 

  • Please come prepared to vote on our new Guild Bylaws.  Each member was emailed a copy of the new version on April 3.  For comparison you can look at the current bylaws on the secure website.

• Remember to bring: 

  •  Quiltfest entries for our guild exhibit, if you submitted info and photos.  Each quilt should have a label, a 4″ hanging sleeve, and be in a pillowcase that also has your name on it
  • Round Robin blocks
  • Sewing organizer bags, if you signed up for the swap
  • Refreshments: Consider bringing a light refreshment to share, especially if your birthday is this month
  • Nametag If you do not have a name tag, we can arrange a partner swap – just ask any of the NJMQG Executive Board Officers (Margy, Kathy, Lori, Aubrey, Sarah).
  • As always, please bring anything you may have for Show and Tell!
  •  Charity quilts that you’ve completed

 FREE table: Bring in the quilty items you no longer use and drop them on our FREE table at the beginning of the meeting. If your items are not taken, please take them home with you


• Member Corner: Many of our members have their own creative businesses and services to offer. A designated table is provided for members to leave their business cards, class/workshop lists, postcards, etc. This is a great way to get the word out about what you have to offer!


• Library: Have you borrowed a book from the NJMQG library? Books can be checked out for one month. Please see Laura F., our librarian.  If you borrowed a book at the last meeting, please remember to return it this month


• Upcoming Events:  Quilt and Sewing Fest of NJ,  April 26-29

March 2018 Guild Meeting

We had 49 members, 2 guests and 1 new member join us at our meeting this month. Welcome to our new member Debby and visitors Jeannette and Julia!

Happenings

MQG

  • Quiltcon 2018– Let’s discuss. We pretty much agree that there should be more transparency in judging and it is also quite subjective. But don’t forget you do have to be juried, but not judged, to get in.
  • anyone sign up for Nashville yet?
  • still looking for taskforce volunteers, especially Inclusion and Diversity
  • and as always, look for articles, webinars and other good stuff

Charity

  • Please continue to make pillowcases!
  • and see Rachel for Charity sew kits/projects to help complete

Quiltfest

  • Beka accepting sign ups for quilt exhibition due by March18. Monochromatic HST still need to fill out form and send pic. Quilts due at April meeting
  • and still asking for volunteers to set up, take down and coordinate!

Bylaws

  • We will be voting on changes in April. Biggest change is the timing of the dues and officer terms

Programs

  • Chawne Kimber is coming March 16 and 17. Saturday is full. (Will post a recap)
  • Quarter 1 Bee blocks were due. Here’s just some

  • JoAnns classes on the Mariners compass will be April 20 and 21. More info and to sign up
  • Kathy will be teaching the Down and Dirty t-shirt quilt June 16. Look out for sign ups
  • Aleeda will be teaching screen printing in August. Keep and eye out for that too
  • New round of Bee block signs up going out now
  • Don’t forget your Organizer bag swap due at the April meeting

Field Trips

  • We will be going to Brooklyn April 14. There will be carpool options and other meetup options. We’ll see the Brooklyn Quilt show, get a yummy lunch and hit up Brooklyn General. Let’s hope for good weather!
  • And keep your calendar open in June we are hoping to check out Grounds for Sculpture and Pennington quilts. There will be a challenge to go along with this too!

A couple of notes:  Regarding Quiltfest submissions, please note that we will not be judging members quilts submitted for our special exhibit.   The committee to curate the show is a group of members who will arrange and hang the quilts to show them to their best advantage in the space provided.  We just want to show off our Modern work!
If you went to QuiltCon, we’d love to spend a few minutes hearing about it – including, what you loved and didn’t like, impressions of the Best in Show winner, the most interesting thing you learned…
