Reminder: October ’17 Meeting this Thursday

Our October meeting is this Thursday October 19, 2017 at 7:15 pm at the Community Church of Cedar Grove, 65 Bowden Road, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009. Parking is located in the large lot in the back – use the side entrance to come in. Feel free to arrive about 15 minutes early.
• Important: Please check in at the registration table to sign in.

Please remember  to bring finished blocks for our QuiltCon charity quilt, paint chip mini quilts to swap,  pillowcases,  and finished charity quilts for hurricane victims.

Thanks to the 54 members who responded to our survey last month (only 2 anonymously). This month we’ll review the results,  get some new committees started,  and hear about some exciting classes planned for the new year.                                          Also at this meeting, Melanie Tuazon will present a trunk show of her work.

——————————————————————————————————————————–• FREE table: Bring in quilty items you no longer use and drop them on our FREE table at the beginning of the meeting. If your items are not taken, please take them home with you

• Member Corner: Many of our members have their own creative businesses and services to offer. A designated table is provided for members to leave their business cards, class/workshop lists, postcards, etc. This is a great way to get the word out about what you have to offer!

• Library: Have you borrowed a book from the NJMQG library? Books can be checked out for one month. Please see Laura F., our librarian.  If you borrowed a book at the last meeting, please try  to return it at this meeting.

—————————————————————————————————————————.Member-Led Workshops!:  Spots are still available for the following workshops:
October:
Trill Workshop with Melanie Tuazon, coming up this Saturday
November:
Nuno Felted Scarf Workshop with Josie Dakers

___________________________________________________________________________________   • Refreshments: Consider bringing a light refreshment to share, especially if your birthday is this month

• Remember to bring, and wear,  your name tag. If you do not have a name tag, we can arrange a partner swap- ask any of the NJMQG Executive Board Officers (Margy, Kathy, Lori, Aubrey, Sarah).                                                                                                                         Your assistance to move chairs at the beginning and/or end of the meeting is greatly appreciated.                                                                                                                                         As always, please bring anything you may have for Show and Tell!

Reminder: Open Sew & Charity Sew Combo – this Saturday 10/7

Our Open Sew is this Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 4pm at the Community Church of Cedar Grove, 65 Bowden Street, Cedar Grove, NJ (where we meet for our monthly guild meetings).

We have SIX hours of sewing scheduled! Can’t make it for the entire time? Come when you can!

So many inquiries have come in about contributing to the recent hurricane relief, we are combining & using the opportunity of this open sew to also make progress on our charity efforts. *Of course, if you have a project you’re trying to get done, please bring it. It will be nice to sew and spend time together.

For our charity sewing – quick and easy is the key, so we can get as much done as possible. We can work together in groups to knock out some projects: sew with a buddy or make a team!
*We’ll bring our donated fabric, scraps, and a big roll of batting.
Don’t feel like piecing? That’s cool – there are few quilt tops already made just waiting to be to be quilted. We’ve cut out big pieces of coordinated fabric for backs, some new tops, or there are a few precut pillowcases if you’d like to try one of those.
*Do you have any jelly rolls or charm packs you haven’t found any use for? (Then let me see your jelly roll!) Bring them along – maybe they will work with something in the charity stash – and no cutting needed! Large pieces for backings are especially appreciated.

*Besides fabric and batting, we will have a cutting station, including an AccuQuilt (Diane will be there to show us the magic of the AccuQuilt and we’ll cut all the things at one time!); an ironing station, and some extension cords.

Please bring:
*sewing machine and your basic supplies
*small ironing set up (the more the merrier), or ironing board (let us know if you’re able to bring one)
*extension cords/surge protectors
*your smiling face

Food stuffs: bring snacks, bring your own lunch (there is a microwave & fridge available), or bring cash $$$ to buy from the Cedar Grove Deli. We’ll place an order.
***
Please bring any finished pillowcases you have – I heard you all made SO MANY!!!!!
Thanks so much, and looking forward to seeing you all
-Rachel
