• So far we have 11 blocks for our “Quilts of Valor” quilt, and we need 20! The free pattern can be found on Craftsy. Volunteers welcome!
• We are starting a new workshop series within our guild, with our super talented members leading the classes! Starting us off will be Diane Fama, teaching Hawaiian Appliqué ! Click the link for more information and for registration!
• In September, Betsy V. will be doing a Member Trunk Show!
• Our next Open Sew is Saturday, September 17th from 10am-2pm.

We will be using a Pinterest board to post photos of ideas and examples for inspiration. We are encouraging everyone to add no more than $10 worth of fun little trinkets inside the bag for their partner. Sign ups close on Sept. 6th and matches will be sent out by Sept. 12th.

Hey all!! First off- can we say-we are 82 members strong!? How awesome is that? So exciting!

Here are a few reminders/upcoming events to keep in mind:

• There’s going to be a 9 Patch Design challenge for QuiltCon (deadline is Nov 30th)
• Our QuiltCon charity quilt idea is celebrating the wide range of ages of our members. We will work on these blocks at the open sew on Sept. 17th. Here is the survey we need members to fill out by Tuesday, August 16th Saturday, August 20th.
• Don’t forget about making/filling and donating a Backpack for the August meeting! The ages of the kids are between K-5th grade.

Here are some tips/tricks and questions from members that were also shared. Q & As

Q: do you iron your seams open? to one side? what is the proper method?

few A’s:

1. half square triangles press open & switch stitch length down
2. iron front of the fabric, open fabric op perpendicular & put iron in the seam and press away
3. Tailor’s clapper (wooden block) leaves a crisp seam

Q:  how do you get gunk off the iron? 

few A’s:

1. Use a used/new dryer sheet when the iron is hot.
2. “Goo Gone” an oil based cleaner when iron is cold.
3. “Iron Off” cleaner
4. Use white vinegar on a Q-tip when iron is hot
5. Use Distilled water

hey all!!

Wonderful meeting as always! Few things happening/reminders below:

• Want to give a shout out to our new (and old 😄)  board members: Daniela di Iorio- our president, Amy rehbein- our Vice President, Annette aponte- our treasurer, stella singleton- our program director, and me Kourtney Teixeira- our secretary!
• Thank you everyone for the  amazing sign ups to make quilts for pulse !!
• QuiltCon East 2017 catalog is available! Registration opens tomorrow June 25th!!
• Annette went over our treasury report. We are in great standing as a guild 🙂
• We are going to be doing a “cross guild” swap with the DC guild. Project will be zippered pouches-more details to come.
• Open Sew-September 17th!
• The Nubian Heritage Quilt show is still going until July 31st. (Sundays from 1-4PM by appointment.)
• Want to thank Story Patches for being our guest speaker and giving us more information about the product!

• Beth and Daniela gave us an idea of what fabrics are trending right now from their trip to Quilt market.

• So many beautiful antique quilts!!! I learned so much that night about fabrics, stitching, etc. during particular time periods. So interesting!
