NEW!: Many of our members have their own creative businesses and services to offer. There will be a table at each meeting designated for members to leave their business cards, class/workshop lists, postcards, etc. This is a great way to get the word out about what you have to offer!

Library: Consider borrowing from our NJMQG Library. If you have borrowed a book from our library, please remember to return it to Kelly C. at this meeting.

MAY 2016 Infinity Scarf Swap: Infinity Scarves are due at this meeting. If you signed up for this swap, please bring the scarf to the meeting!

• NJMQG Board Nominations: An email went out to members about the election in June. If you did not receive the email, please email njmqginfo at gmail dot com.

• Please bring your name tag to the meeting. If you were paired up at the last meeting and you chose to swap at this meeting, please remember to bring the name tag. If you do not have a name tag, we can arrange a partner swap- please see any one of the NJMQG Executive Board Officers (Daniela, Amy, Tracy, Annette, or Kourtney). As always, please bring anything you may have for Show and Tell! If you took the Melissa Averinos Making Faces Workshop this past Saturday, we encourage you to share your pieces from the class!

See you on Thursday!

May 2016 Meeting: Slow Stiching Demos

Hello everyone!

So excited to have three Slow Stitching Demos at the May meeting (Thursday, May 19)!

  • Tracy B. will show us Visible Mending
  • Stephanie M. will show us Hand Quilting
  • Stella S. will show us Embroidery

We will break off into smaller groups so we can watch/participate in each Slow Stitching topic.

Here is a list of supplies for each Slow Stitching topic if you would like to participate during each demo:

Visible Mending:
Please bring:
– something that either needs mending or could use a little stitchy patch embellishment
– scrap fabric for patching – if it’s for heavier fabric like jeans it’s a good idea to use a similar fabric weight for the patch
– heavier thread: embroidery, Sashiko, even heavier sewing thread like button thread
– needles that can accommodate the thicker strands

Hand Quilting:
Please bring:
– fat quarter size quilt sandwich
– embroidery hoop
– thimble that would fit on your middle finger (right or left handed) if you have one

Embroidery:
Please bring:
– Embroidery Needle
– small sharp scissors
– a scrap or piece of patterned fabric with bold lines/design
– 1-2 skeins of DMC floss that matches the fabric
– a hoop sized appropriately to hold the fabric scrap securely (wood or plastic is ok)
Please use the Comments section of this blog post for any questions. Thanks!
