Quilters Take Manhattan

Registration is Open today, Monday, March 7th for members of the Quilt Alliance! Tickets go on sale to non-members at a later date.

From the website: “Speakers will be announced soon. [The] main event at FIT will be held on Saturday, September 25 with fun add-on events held on Friday, September 23 and Sunday, September 25.

Here is a link to check out past Quilters Take Manhattan events which have included an After Dark Cocktail Party at the home and studio of Victoria Findlay Wolfe with a quilt design competition between Heather Jones, Luke Haynes and Mark Lipinski, Tours of the Garment district, Workshops at City Quilter, Behind the Scenes Preview at the American Folk Art Museum and the Metropolitan Museum’s Renowned Textile Center, lectures, Costume Tour at the Museum at FIT, and more!

Still going on! The show started this Thursday, March 3rd and ends today, Sunday, March 6th at 5pm! It’s located at the Garden State Exhibit Center, 50 Atrium Drive, Somerset, NJ.

Visit our Special Exhibit called “Modern Quilts presented by the NJMQG”! While you are there also check out the rest of the show, the other special exhibits and the vendors!

March 2016 GREEN Pincushion Swap:

The theme is Green and must be a Pincushion. It’s due at the upcoming March 2016 Meeting, Thursday, March 17th!  Click here for details and inspiration.

Paper Bag Mini Swap:

The Paper Bag Mini Swap bags were handed out at the February meeting. These are due at the April 2016 meeting!


 

Field Trips: Shopping Saturday

Reminder:: Our next Field Trip/Shopping Saturday is Saturday, March 19th at 3pm at Rock Paper Scissors located at 15 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair, NJ!


Morris Museum Exhibits

The Morris Museum currently has Studio Art Quilt Associates’ annual quilt art exhibition titled Text Messages. This runs through Sunday, March 20th.

There is also an exhibit of vintage textiles/crafts titled Follow the Thread which runs through Sunday, May 1st. This exhibit brings together more than seventy-five works from the collection of the Morris Museum.


March 2016 Crossroads Retreat

The spring Crossroads Retreat runs from Thursday, March 31st – Sunday, April 3rd!

Upcoming Lecture and Workshop

Melissa Averinos will be visiting us Friday, May 13th and Saturday, May 14th! Mark your calendars! She will give a Talk and Trunk Show on Friday night, May 13th, and will teach a “Making Faces” Workshop (a class recently taught at QuiltCon!) on Saturday, May 14th. Details coming soon!

February 21-22, 28- March 1 Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild show

Every two years, the Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild brings a spectacular assortment of quilts and wall hangings to the Crane House and Historic YWCA.  This years exhibit “In the Spirit of Freedom” celebrates the 20th anniversary of the he Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild. Come view the quilts and watch as they demonstrate hand piecing, machine piecing, rotary cutting and applique techniques.  Special Exhibits include: Modern Art Masterpieces,  Gee’s Bend Quilts, Prayer Flags, Surprise Art Quilts, Colored Girls Quilts, Dolls, and Pin Cushions.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children.  Children under 7 are free. Exhibit dates: February 21-22, 1-4 PM and February 28 to March 1, 1-4 PM.

March 5-8  Quilt Fest

Escape from Cabin Fever by joining us for The Quilt Fest of New Jersey at the Garden State Exhibit Center. The Quilt Fest will feature a Merchants Mall offering the best in fabrics, notions, sewing machines, wearable art, embroidery and everything for the quilter and home sewer! Details here.

March 14 (DEADLINE FEBRUARY 20) – Brownstone bus trip to Lancaster

The Brownstone Quilter’s Guild will be running a trip to the AQS show in Lancaster, Pa. on Saturday, March 14, 2015.    The cost of the trip is $60.00 and includes the bus fare, entrance to the quilt show and a tip for the bus driver.  If you or any members of your respective guilds are interested in taking the trip please send a check in the amount of $60.00 made out to the BROWNSTONE QUILTERS GUILD to my home address (EMAIL NJMQGINFO AT GMAIL.COM FOR ADDRESS) before February 20th.    Be sure to include your cell phone number on the check. The bus will be at the parking lot of the Armenian Presbyterian Church located at 140 Forest Avenue,  Paramus, 07463  at 7:15AM for a departure time of 7:30AM.    Park to the right side of the parking lot.  We should be back in Paramus at about 7:00PM

April 25 – American Sewing Guild Spring Fling

The North Jersey Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is welcoming quilt teacher, designer and humorist Mark Lipinski as our guest speaker for our April 25th Spring Fling event. We hope you will join us!! The event, which includes lunch, door prizes, and Mark’s wonderful Quilt Journey trunk show and lecture, is from 11:30 am-3:30 pm at the Lafayette Place, Old Lafayette Village, Routes 15 & 94, Lafayette, N.J.
