Holiday Potluck Celebration

We are so thrilled about our annual Holiday Potluck Celebration!

Date: Thursday, December 15th, 2016

Time: 7:15pm  (doors open at 6:30pm)

Location: LDS Church, 209 Mountain Avenue Caldwell, NJ 07006
(please note change of location for this meeting only)

We would love for everyone to bring a hot or cold appetizer, beverage or dessert. Use this link to sign up. (click here)

Many items need multiples so feel free to sign up for whatever you feel comfortable bringing – Napkins your thing?  No judgement here.

This is also the time where we reveal our Elster swap partner. If you were matched up in October, bring your gift to present to your partner.

Due to all the activities taking place at the meeting, we respectfully ask that you limit your show and tell items to two items.

Can’t wait to round out the year with all our fabulous members!

  • Here is more information about Mid Atlantic Mod . General registration opens November 27th & they will be making a waitlist this year.

Aleeda gave us some great tips for our “quilty health!”

What are some of the most important tools to make you a successful quilter?

  1. Hand Lotion from Bed, Bath, and Body works: “Look ma, New hands.”
  2. Stretching! How to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome: doing wrist circles, and stretching out the wrists regularly.
  3. Focus/Giving your eyes a rest: Special eye chart 10-15 ft across the room allows you to take a break from sewing/quilting and allows you to refocus your eyes.
  4. Little red stress ball from Staples.

And now, Show &  Tell!

See you in December elfsters :)!

Have you figured out which quilt(s) you are submitting to be chosen to hang at Quilt Fest in our special exhibit: Modern Quilts: North Jersey Modern Quilt Guild yet?

Quilt Fest Dates: March 2-5, 2017
Location: Garden State Exhibit Center, 50 Atrium Drive,  Somerset, NJ 08873

:: How to Submit / Details ::
•  We are able to display about 30 quilts.

•  A committee will review entries to curate the show. Please keep in mind this is an exhibit that should showcase your best modern quilt work. This is an exhibit that is included in the show, in part, to raise awareness about the modern quilt movement.

•  Here is an excerpt of the blurb we submitted for the brochure and for the website about our exhibit:
“Modern quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design. Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in different ways, but several characteristics often appear which help identify a modern quilt. These include, but are not limited to: the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work. “Modern traditionalism” or the updating of classic quilt designs is also often represented.”

•  We encourage submitting mini quilts and multiple quilts!

•  To be considered, please click here to fill out the form. The form will ask for the following info:

– Maker’s name

– Title of each work
– Artist statement “blurb” (name of maker, title of item – may include more details – plus a descriptive paragraph)
– Size: quilts must be a minimum of 20″ on one side

Items cannot be insured for greater than $5,000 each (even with a greater appraised value). MSM insurance coverage excludes earthquake and flood.”)

– Email and phone number

•  After submitting the form please email 1-2 photos of your quilt to njmqginfo at gmail dot com. Please name the file with your last name and name of the quilt. Example: “Surname_Quiltname.jpg”.
