September 2020 Guild Meeting – This Thursday!!

Hello members, how are you? Here’s your monthly reminder…

We’ve got our Zoom guild meeting 9/17/20 – and we’d love to see your smiling faces! Our meeting is wherever YOU are – your couch, backyard, your sewing table, you pick!

We’ll open it up at our usual 7pm to visit & we’ll start at 7:15

Look for an email soon with the ZOOM call in details, it’ll include an attachment to go along with our demo this month! This way you can watch and enjoy, and the directions will go straight to your email inbox.

We do need from you – photos from: 

  • the PapperSaxsten Twice Cut Drunkards Path class from last month
  • UFO challenge finishes
  • Show & Tell 

SEND by WEDNESDAY to (programs@njmqg.com) with SEPTEMBER (UFO, S&T, class, etc) in the subject line so we can include everyone’s makes in the slide show.

August 20th Meeting Recap

We are winding down the summer, but our on-line meetings keep getting hotter! We had 54 people join our session and we announced 4 new members this month. Welcome Mary O’Shea, Buntari Keitt, Jacqueline Biegel, and Nancy Lipsey!

Guild Business

It is time for our annual review of the bylaws. Members are welcome to review the current bylaws found on the members only section of the website. Please send suggestions you may have VP Kathy (vicepresident@njmqg.com) to be discussed at the next board meeting.

Quiltcon Submissions – will open September 1st. You can find more information at quiltcon.com

MQG Mini Swap – information and sign ups to participate will be coming in the September and October.

Community Quilt Challenge

Thanks to Lenny for this amazing quilt design we will be making for our community charity submission for Quiltcon. Samantha and Margy will be the coordinators for this project. Sign ups to participate will go out to members Sept 1st.

Guest Lecturer – Clara Narty

The highlight of the night was our speaker Clara Narty who spoke to us about ‘How to Get Out of a Creative Slump’. The talk was informative and insightful. It was a true delight to have her speak to us and comment about her amazing work. You can check out her quilt art by clicking here.

Programs

The Connected Project Reveal

We finally opened our envelopes on August 6th and were able to assemble our blocks! What fun we had and the results are so cool!

If you would like to donate your block to be assembled for a a charity quilt, Betsy Vinegrad has offered to collect blocks and put them together. Please mail them to her after September 7th.

Charity Update – We will donating 15 quilts to S.O.F.I.A.(Start Out Fresh Intervention Advocates) in Montclair.

Block Lotto – Wonky Churndash

These blocks were raffled off and the winner was…Me(Jen)! This concludes our block Lotto program for the year!

UFO Challenge

And the winner of the Drunkards Path/Curved Templates was Kelly! Congratulations!

October Events – We will have Sarah Trail from the Social Justice Sewing Academy speak to us at our member meeting. Mark your calendars now to make sure you don’t miss out.

Jenny Haynes of Pappersaxsten will be back with us again for another workshop. ‘Thistles, Cogs & Caterpillar Wheels’, a 2-day workshop will be offered on October 24th and 25th. Sign ups to go out in October.

Our guest this month: Clara Nartey – artist, quilt designer, author, and creativity mentor, she’ll be joining us for our meeting and talking with us about getting out of a creative slump.

Check your video & audio settings before we start and don’t hesitate to ask if you need some guidance about where your settings are. Since we plan on a Q&A time, familiarize yourself with the ZOOM buttons: there is a chat button that looks like a speech bubble. Feel free to use this to ask questions during her talk.

We’ll start our meeting by quickly talking about some guild business then after our Q&A with Clara we’ll continue our meeting with programs updates and have our UFO & Show & Tell shares.
