The blocks for the Pulse Quilts will be collected at the July 2016 Meeting. Thank you to all who are able to contribute. We still need one person to assemble the back of one quilt. Please email njmqginfo at gmail dot com to help out. All volunteer spots filled. Thank you!

July 2016 Meeting: Do you have a quick quilting/sewing related tip to share with our group? If so, please come prepared to share about it at our July guild meeting!

Thank you to those who were able to sign up to make blocks for the Pulse Charity quilts. Those blocks are due by the July 2016 guild meeting date (July 21st). We will need volunteers for the following to complete two quilts. The final size of each quilt will be about 50 x 60″.

  • Spot Filled! 1 Quilt Top: ONE volunteer needed to assemble heart blocks into one quilt top.
  • 2 Quilt Backs: TWO One spot filled! We now need ONE volunteer to assemble the back of the other quilt.
  • Both Spots Filled! 2 Quilts to Quilt: TWO volunteers needed to quilt the quilts. The guild will provide the batting. The quilting does not have to be fancy or complex!

Please email njmqginfo@gmail.com if you can help. This post will be updated as spots get filled.

The blocks/materials will be handed out at the July guild meeting. We would like the quilted quilts (without binding or labels) due back by the August meeting date (August 18th). If you would like to participate, but will not be at the July or August guild meetings, please specify that in your email and we will figure out logistics.

Thank you!

Reminder: JUNE 2016 OPEN SEW!

Woo hoo! Our June 2016 OPEN SEW is tomorrow, Saturday, June 4th!

WHEN: Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
WHERE: Community Church of Cedar Grove, 65 Bowden Street, Cedar Grove, NJ (where we meet for our monthly guild meetings)

** We will be working on a Quilt of Valor pattern as outlined below. As always, you may also work on other NJMQG charity quilts or on your own personal projects at this Open Sew.

** Please remember to pack your lunch. If you would like, please bring a snack or drinks to share.

** We need a couple of members to bring in an iron/ironing mat/board to share. Please comment below if you can share an “ironing set up.” Also, remember to bring extension cords/surge protectors if you have them. If you have an extra task light for your station, that may help, too.

** Donations of white fabric needed for the charity quilt. Please see below.

Please see Tracy’s message about the Charity project for the day:

The Quilt of Valor pattern we will be using is “Kite Tails” by Amy Friend, it was the MQG August 2014 free pattern of the month. The quilt blocks are large, 12″ x 18″, and are made using paper piecing.

We have enough red, blue, and cream/tan donated patterned fabric for the bow tie shapes (but feel free to bring patriotic fabric if you would like to donate more) but we will need plain white quilting cotton for the background. Just pure white, if the tones are a little off in shade it’s fine since this is a scrappy pattern. For each block I recommend a 1/4 yard, it’s more than each block will need but then it will be easy to paper piece and not stress over having the right sized scrap.

Here is the pattern: Kite Tails August 2014 Pattern
A 60″ x 72″ quilt requires 20 blocks. We should hit that easily! If you’re an experienced paper piecer this is simple, if you’re new hopefully my quick demo will make sense. We might need sewing buddies that day!
