January Meeting Recap!

hey all! The QuiltCon charity quilt looks amazing! A huge thanks to all who volunteered to help make this happen! 🙂 You’ve all done an amazing job!

here’s some info and reminders below:

  • The Modern Quilt Guild has introduced its “modern monthly!’ It’s a monthly newsletter dedicated to things like, quilt of the month, block of the month, webinars, articles, interviews, etc. To gain access to these you must be a paid member.
  • Quiltfest is coming up March 2-5! We have about 23-24 quilts to put into the show! SO exciting! A form will be available soon for all to see the beautiful quilts. If you would like to help curate how they hang, help to set up or take down the exhibit, you can volunteer by emailing njmqginfo at gmail dot com.
  • There is a fabric challenge coming up by Kaffe Fassett for FreeSpirit fabrics called, “I am an Artisan .” Make a quilt, and possibly have it picked by Kaffe himself along with tons of different prizes! The quilt must be at least 80% artisan and the rest can be anything you would like to pair it with. The deadline is in June. Click the link for more info & you can look up examples by using the #artisanchallenge on instagram.
  • Feb. 4th is Amy’s Betty Bowler Bag class! Make sure you have your supplies! It’s coming up 🙂
  • All info for the Bee blocks has been emailed to the appropriate hives!
  • Our February swap is the cross back apron ! SO much fun! Click the link to sign up and for more info. The brown bag mini quilt swap will be after this one 🙂
  • Don’t forget to mark your calendars Timna Tarr is coming to town! She will do her lecture Friday, June 16th, and her map workshop will be Saturday, June 17th at our regular meeting location.
  • Our garment district adventure will be rescheduled! Stayed tuned for more info!

Thanks Liz for the Artisan presentation! We are excited for the challenge.img_7762

Aleeda’s Quilty Tips!!

img_7763

Aleeda’s got some awesome quilty tips to share with all of us!

  • For rulers, threads, & cutters- you must first take inventory of what you have! Organize the rulers by shapes and use a peg board with a pipe cleaner to hold them all together. Aleeda uses an “omnigrid” bag that she got from JoAnn’s that she highly recommends.
  • For circle rulers, use a belt holder to keep them together and organized.
  • Thread can be stored in pencil cases/boxes. (which I believe she got from staples/office depot) She suggests organizing them by the type of thread they are. For example “Aurifil, Polyester, Metallic, etc.”
  • She keeps her bobbins secure by using the “donut” bobbin holder.
  • She uses a magnetic bar to hold her other tools such as scissors, [put a LOCK on them if you have some sneaky hands in the house :)] you can purchase them from IKEA, & harbor freight.

Show & Tell!

See you all next month!
