Warm welcome to the newest members Carol and Wendy.

  • Within the next couple of weeks we will be sending out some surveys. We need extra hands to help. So keep an eye out!
  • Thank you to Laura F for volunteering to be the librarian and Elinor to head the sunshine committee.
  • We have decided to do pop up shopping three times a year. We don’t want it to interfere with trunk shows or other activities we might have going on.

  • We had our mini mini swap. Participants included SarahEmily (shown by Margy)Rochelle Colleen Betsy Aleeda Jackie Joann #1 JoAnn #2 Amy (embarrassed, but shouldn’t be!!!)  Amazing work done by all!!
  • Next month the paint chip challenge is due.

Vice President 

  • First a Thank you to the previous board members. Thank you to Daniela, Amy, Stella, Annette and Kourtney for all your hard work!
  • We are streamlining how we communicate. We have a new mailing address, a PO Box located in Montclair, and new NJMQG email addresses for a cohesive identity and easy transition to future boards. We are now using Google’s G Suite, a set of productivity tools which we were able to implement for free due to our Non-Profit status.

Programs

  • Once again we are asking for many hands to help so keep an eye out for surveys for input and ways to help.
  • We are looking into changing our bee block possibly for a round robin or a different style
  • Indigo dying class review.   Good time had by all. Special thanks to Sarah for teaching and Stella for hosting and providing an amazing spread.

Upcoming events

  • Paint chip mini quilt is due at the October meeting  due to popular demand!
  • Possible future teachers include Amy Friend, Chawne Kimber, Heather Kojan
  • We are interested in hearing your suggestions for teachers
  • Michelle is doing trunk show in September
  • Michelle is teaching the Noodlehead Market Tote on September 23 (great bag!!)

Charity

  • Rachel-Last year we participated in Giving Hope Network. They provide ‘stuffed suitcases’ for 2-12 year olds in the Essex county foster system. This year we would like to participate as well. If you would like to help please bring completed pillowcases to the September meeting or the October 7 open Sew
  • Betsy and Melanie- The charity quilt for Quiltcon 2018 theme is Modern Traditional. The colors are white, ivory, yellow, orange, cerise, purple, and red. Betsy and Melanie have come up with two ideas. Stripes and Flecks and Stars and Stars. (A surevey went out and Stars and Stars was chosen by the members). September fabric will be handed out. October blocks will be collected. November blocks will be assembled. January 14 is the due date.

April 2017 Meeting Recap

What a great meeting!

NJMQG Committee Volunteer Form is active. You can also sign up to be a “floating” volunteer without being on a Committee. Click here to volunteer!


Board Elections will be held in June. Nominations were opened at this meeting. Any member in good standing can self-nominate to get on the ballot for our meeting on June 15. Members can also nominate other members with their permission. Questions? Email us at njmqginfo at gmail dot com.


InstaIntros are so fun! Are you on the list to have your own week? If not, contact Stella to be put on the schedule. This is a great way to share your creative space, quilts, creations, and inspiration on the NJMQG Instagram feed. It’s also a fantastic way to get to know your fellow members. Charity:
– The NJMQG donated 28 finished quilts to those who lost their homes in the Ocean Grove fire.
– NJMQG members made over 50 pillowcases (!!!) to be donated to the Giving Hope Network. The pillowcases will be given to foster children.
Charity Pouches to be donated: Charity pouch kits were handed out to be collected at the May meeting along with travel-sized toiletries. The fabric was generously donated by Cloud9 Fabrics (Thank you, Cloud9 Fabrics!).

Brown Bag Mini Quilt Swap: Our members had so much fun with making and receiving these mini quilts!


Member Trunk Show with Jo Ann Lepore: JoAnn has been quilting for over 30 years. She has always had a sewing machine and couldn’t imagine what her life would be like without one. Her favorite part of the process is piecing the fabrics and seeing the magic come alive. Being able to take fabric and manipulate the patterns is so rewarding and creative.

March 2017 Meeting Recap

We had a lovely meeting in March!

Our meeting started off with some MQG announcements which can be found here.


The First Quarter Bee Block Swap blocks were exchanged. Look at those beautiful blocks!

Members shared finished quilts and tops made for charity. A couple of the quilts shown here were made at the February Open Sew!


At the February Open Sew, members participated in a Jelly Roll Race! Also, check out how fast Amy can sew here and here! 😉


Members recapped their experiences at QuiltCon 2017. Click here to see the award winners of the quilt show. As a guild, we submitted a quilt to the QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge. Thank you to all of the members who made this quilt happen!
