May 2016 Infinity Scarf Swap!

May 3, 2016, edited to add: Sign ups are now closed. Infinity scarves are due at the May 2016 guild meeting (Thursday, May 19th).

It’s time for our next swap! A beautiful, breezy Infinity Scarf seems to be the perfect choice for the warm weather.

For this swap, we’ll be matching you with a partner instead of randomly swapping them. This way you can get to know who you are sewing for and make a personalized scarf to her/his taste.

Timeline:
– Deadline to sign up is Tuesday, May 3rd.
– Matches will go out Wednesday, May 4th.
– Scarves are due at the May 2016 Guild Meeting on Thursday, May 19th.

The Rules:
– Make something you would be proud and happy to wear yourself.
– Take your partner’s fabric likes into consideration
– Use quality fabrics
– Say “thank you” after the swap
– You get what you get and you don’t get upset

To sign up for the swap, please click here to fill out the form. You must be an NJMQG member. You will be contacted with your partner’s information on May 4th.

This is a great swap to try out different substrates like voile, double gauze, knit fabric, even mixing and matching fabrics for a reversible fashion accessory.

Reminder: April 2016 Meeting this Thursday!

April 2016 Meeting This Thursday!

• Our April meeting is this Thursday, April 28th, 2016 at 7:15pm (note the time change) at our new location:

~ Community Church of Cedar Grove, 65 Bowden Road, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009

• Please park in the large lot in the back and use the side entrance to come in.

• Feel free to arrive about 15 minutes early.

• Please remember, you do not have to bring a chair.

• Important: Please check in first at the Check-In table before going into the main area where the meeting takes place.

• NEW!: Many of our members have their own creative businesses and services to offer. There will be a table at each meeting designated for members to leave their business cards, class/workshop lists, postcards, etc. This is a great way to get the word out about what you have to offer!

• FREE table: Please bring in quilty / sewing related items you are no longer using/would like to pass along (books, fabric, thread, patterns, notions, etc). If it does not get taken by the end of the meeting, please take it home with you.

• Library: Consider borrowing from our NJMQG Library. If you have borrowed a book from our library, please remember to return it to Kelly C. at this meeting.

• Paper Bag Mini SWAP: The mini quilts are due at this meeting! We cannot wait to see all of them! So exciting!!!

• Empire Quilters Guild Raffle Quilt: This gorgeous raffle quilt will be on display at our meeting. Please see Aleeda to purchase raffle tickets!

• MAY 2016 Infinity Scarf Swap: Read all about it here! Sign ups are open until May 3rd!

• Refreshments: Please consider bringing a light refreshment to share at the meeting. If you are able to do so, please let us know by commenting on this blog post.

• Please bring your name tag to the meeting. If you do not have a name tag, we can arrange a partner swap- please see any one of the NJMQG Executive Board Officers (Daniela, Amy, Tracy, Annette, or Kourtney). As always, please bring anything you may have for Show and Tell!

Quilters Take Manhattan

Registration is Open today, Monday, March 7th for members of the Quilt Alliance! Tickets go on sale to non-members at a later date.

From the website: “Speakers will be announced soon. [The] main event at FIT will be held on Saturday, September 25 with fun add-on events held on Friday, September 23 and Sunday, September 25.

Quiltfest

Still going on! The show started this Thursday, March 3rd and ends today, Sunday, March 6th at 5pm! It’s located at the Garden State Exhibit Center, 50 Atrium Drive, Somerset, NJ.

Visit our Special Exhibit called “Modern Quilts presented by the NJMQG”! While you are there also check out the rest of the show, the other special exhibits and the vendors!

SWAPS

March 2016 GREEN Pincushion Swap:

The theme is Green and must be a Pincushion. It’s due at the upcoming March 2016 Meeting, Thursday, March 17th! Click here for details and inspiration.

Paper Bag Mini Swap:

The Paper Bag Mini Swap bags were handed out at the February meeting. These are due at the April 2016 meeting!

Field Trips: Shopping Saturday

Reminder:: Our next Field Trip/Shopping Saturday is Saturday, March 19th at 3pm at Rock Paper Scissors located at 15 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair, NJ!

Morris Museum Exhibits

The Morris Museum currently has Studio Art Quilt Associates’ annual quilt art exhibition titled Text Messages. This runs through Sunday, March 20th.

There is also an exhibit of vintage textiles/crafts titled Follow the Thread which runs through Sunday, May 1st. This exhibit brings together more than seventy-five works from the collection of the Morris Museum.

March 2016 Crossroads Retreat

The spring Crossroads Retreat runs from Thursday, March 31st – Sunday, April 3rd!

Mid-Atlantic Mod!

Melissa Averinos will be visiting us Friday, May 13th and Saturday, May 14th! Mark your calendars! She will give a Talk and Trunk Show on Friday night, May 13th, and will teach a “Making Faces” Workshop (a class recently taught at QuiltCon!) on Saturday, May 14th. Details coming soon!
