REMINDER: SEPTEMBER 2017 MEETING THIS THURSDAY!

• Our September meeting is this Thursday,September 21, 2017 at 7:15 pm at the Community Church of Cedar Grove, 65 Bowden Road, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009. Parking is located in the large lot in the back – use the side entrance to come in. Feel free to arrive about 15 minutes early.
• Important: Check in at the registration table to sign in and pick up a raffle ticket for door prizes before finding a seat.

Our first meeting after the summer, this should be a busy one. Michelle will present a trunk show of her work; there’s a membership survey that we’ll distribute and take time to discuss; and we expect that the piece work for our QuiltCon charity quilt will be distributed.

• FREE table: Bring in the quilty items you no longer use and drop them on our FREE table at the beginning of the meeting. If your items are not taken, please take them home with you

• Member Corner: Many of our members have their own creative businesses and services to offer. A designated table is provided for members to leave their business cards, class/workshop lists, postcards, etc. This is a great way to get the word out about what you have to offer!

• Library: Have you borrowed a book from the NJMQG library? Books can be checked out for one month. Please see Laura F., our new librarian. If you borrowed a book at the last meeting, remember to return it at this meeting.

Events for Autumn 2017

I hope everyone has had a fun summer! Doesn’t it seem like it has been ages since our last meeting? Here’s an overview of our upcoming happenings (all events are at the Cedar Grove Community Church unless noted):

Charity: We’re now adding a quilt drive for Houston and Florida in addition to our planned pillowcase drive for children in foster care.

Pillowcases for the Giving Hope Network – Please bring pillowcases to the September 21 Meeting. (You can also make them at the October 7 Open Sew but our focus on that day is now moving toward quilt making for Hurricane victims.)

Hurricane Response: We’d love to hear from members your ideas about how you would like us to implement this, but we know one thing: we will be making quilts for distribution! To that end, please feel free to start making them now. In addition, our Open Sew on October 7 will be dedicated to making quilts for Florida and Houston. The guild has fabric and batting, and we’ll be looking for volunteers to quilt and bind them.

Noodlehead Market Tote with Michelle Reiter – There have been a few cancellations, so there are 2 spots open.

Open Sew October 7, 10AM-4PM:
Guild Charity Sew Day for Houston and Florida. Come and sew for a few hours or all day! Guild will supply fabric and batting.

Meeting October 19, 7:15 PM:
Trunk show with member Melanie Tuazon.
Paint Chip Minis due. Make a mini quilt using the colors on the paint chip that you chose at the August meeting. Size Should be no longer than 12″ on one size and 20″ on the other. (see above for details!)

Potholder swap due -Make a potholder (8″x8″). This should be a modern take on a classic block!

Warm welcome to the newest members Carol and Wendy.

Within the next couple of weeks we will be sending out some surveys. We need extra hands to help. So keep an eye out!
Thank you to Laura F for volunteering to be the librarian and Elinor to head the sunshine committee.
We have decided to do pop up shopping three times a year. We don’t want it to interfere with trunk shows or other activities we might have going on.

First a Thank you to the previous board members. Thank you to Daniela, Amy, Stella, Annette and Kourtney for all your hard work!
We are streamlining how we communicate. We have a new mailing address, a PO Box located in Montclair, and new NJMQG email addresses for a cohesive identity and easy transition to future boards. We are now using Google’s G Suite, a set of productivity tools which we were able to implement for free due to our Non-Profit status.

Once again we are asking for many hands to help so keep an eye out for surveys for input and ways to help.
We are looking into changing our bee block possibly for a round robin or a different style
Indigo dying class review. Good time had by all. Special thanks to Sarah for teaching and Stella for hosting and providing an amazing spread.

Charity

Rachel-Last year we participated in Giving Hope Network. They provide ‘stuffed suitcases’ for 2-12 year olds in the Essex county foster system. This year we would like to participate as well. If you would like to help please bring completed pillowcases to the September meeting or the October 7 open Sew
Betsy and Melanie- The charity quilt for Quiltcon 2018 theme is Modern Traditional. The colors are white, ivory, yellow, orange, cerise, purple, and red. Betsy and Melanie have come up with two ideas. Stripes and Flecks and Stars and Stars. (A surevey went out and Stars and Stars was chosen by the members). September fabric will be handed out. October blocks will be collected. November blocks will be assembled. January 14 is the due date.
